  • Artist: Radiohead Song: Street Spirit (Fade Out) Album: The Bends Lyrics Rows of houses, all bearing down on me I can feel their blue hands touching me All these things into position All these things we'll one day swallow whole And fade out again and fade out This machine will, will not communicate These thoughts and the strain I am under Be a world child, form a circle Before we all go under And fade out again and fade out again Cracked eggs, dead birds Scream as they fight for life I can feel death, can see its beady eyes All these things into position All these things we'll one day swallow whole And fade out again and fade out again Immerse your soul in love IMMERSE YOUR SOUL IN LOVE

The inspiration behind this song is an African novel called "The Famished Road" about a boy called "Azaro [who] is an abiku, or spirit-child, from the ghetto of an unknown city in Africa. He is constantly harassed by his sibling spirits from another world who want him to leave this mortal life and return to the world of spirits, sending many emissaries to bring him back."

Eversince I discovered this song, I can only discribe it as a human slaughter house. It sorta reminds you how to be hollow feels like, how to be empty feels like, how to be nihilist feels like...

Idk for some reason this song has the same "vibe" that the song "Babe I'm gonna leave you" by Led Zeppelin has. Thw guitar at least gives the vibe.

"All of our saddest songs have somewhere in them at least a glimmer of resolve, 'Street Spirit' has no resolve . . . It is the dark tunnel without the light at the end. It represents all tragic emotion that is so hurtful that the sound of that melody is its only definition." - Thom Yorke

Every time I listen to this song, it goes deeper inside on my soul. So blue, so true.

I adore OK Computer too, I remember nearly crying when I listened to Let Down and Exit Music for the first time! I don't even cry at the best of times

You should check out Superhuman's cover of this. It was used in the Mad Max: Fury Road trailer and is equally amazing

This song reminds me we are the only species aware of its self destruction. It also reminds me I live in a world of dying people all going through the same immenint pain. Immerse yourself in love there's no time for hate, we're all on borrowed time. Of course I'm aware thats probably not the exact point of the song, at least to the lot of people commenting what they got out of it. So simple and trivial but for some odd reason most people don't want to think about it. Its a tad depressing but it also urges you to just be better.
